. Plus, it's not backgrounded, so we're effectively blocking part of the boot process (and the tools needed for a script to bg itself aren't shipped on the Kindle), so i'm not even sure it'd be technically feasible.

Hello everybody, and expacially NiLuJe,

Geez, I work with complex systems (I'm an SAP technical consultant at SAP), but I swear I didn't understand much of your tech talk! :-)
So, apologies if I am asking something dumb, but I would like to know what's the situation by now (I see some days have passed since the new firmware release).
Is this jbreakable?
I have a pw2 with fw 5.4.5.1, Kual, Mkk and mrupdater (plus several hacks and apps). Is it possible to update having all of this surviving? If so, how?
If not, what are the steps after the update needed to restore the situation: will jb + mkk reapplication be enough?

As many people here I am basically a kindle USER, I use it for reading and therefore, having some technical background I try to hack and jbreak it from time to time, but I don't "play" with it normally. So if possible let me recap what I think I remember from last time I have updated.

This is NOT working at the moment with 5.6.1. It was like that in older releases:
by updating:

JB remained "on"
MKK had to be reinstalled, but once done its extension were already working - if compatible with the new firmware
Hacks (ss hack for example) had to be reinstalled

Is that correct?

Yep.

And the difference is that now hacks run as an unprivileged user so you cannot reinstall.

Although MKK is bridged with the latest JB.

That means that currently, with 5.6.1, jb does not get broken, mkk and thus kual might not be as well (depending on jb version), but hacks are, and as of now there is no way to install them.
Sounds that this update did a lot for the users but also a lot against the developers..

Don't have time to rehash the details, because there are quite a few, but while some of it survives the trip, I really, really urge anyone relying on custom code *NOT* to update until everything is golden for good.

New hardware combination, and its first step into the world was wearing fw-5.6.1.
I.E: There is nothing 'prior' to confuse (or help) the issue.

But not yet time to give up hope.

So, with the Nov 25th update can we resume the situation as that:

- fw 5.6.1 still a PIA
- Downgrade from 5.6.1 still not possible
- Latest JB (1.13.N) does survive the update to fw 5.6.1
- mrupdater plugin has been fixed and makes now possible to apply hacks to fw 5.6.1 provided it was jailbroken in advance with JB 1.13.N - not older JB

Is that correct?

After updating my pw2 to 5.6.1 I m getting Repair code 2 and cant start the device but after first restart when update process finished there was message that jailbreak survived the update.
Can anyone help me how to fix it?

Well I have jailbroken kindle pw2 (jailbreak is from March) and I have updated it regularly offline. After updating on 5.6.1 device can't boot after update process, just showing "Repair Needed" screen, code of repair is 2.
If you need more info let me know.

What did you update? Jailbreak?
Or you updated only the firmware without first updating to the latest jailbreak?

(Grrrr... it seems fw update ins't "golden" yet...)
