yes, the shit has hit the fan all over about writers these days.
But really, isn't that behaviour the standard? Astroturfing, slamming competitors on forums, etc. I can remember Isaac Newton slamming Leibniz about Calculus. |

A crime writer using fraudulent methods to make his stuff sound better? I guess that makes sense, somehow. Since he got caught, I can't imagine that the crimes in his works have been very intricate.

Obviously, the fake review thing isn't as easy as John Locke made it out to be.

This one's a lot more scummier than what Locke did. He's no better than the people on Ebay who buy from competitors just to trash their ratings.

Few weeks ago I wanted to buy a MSQL performance book. It was weird that the book had perfect reviews and those reviewers they all had same nationality. Weekday a coincidence, lol ...
Well, I checked each, and all of them. They reviewed the same author and on all instances, 5 stars. It was clear to me that the author paid for those or somehow, he asked relatives or friends to write the fake reviews. |

If Amazon wants me to give even the slightest credence to their customer reviews, here's what they can do:
-- Require all customer reviews to be signed with the review author's name and town. -- Only allow reviews by reviewers who have had packages successfully delivered to their name and address Getting back to the OP, has anyone mentioned that this crime author is published by a big six imprint? The problem is with the Amazon review system, not with who is, or is not, the publisher. |

Although I am surprised that someone as relatively successful as this author stooped to this level. Quote:

I guess I'm a bit naive but I didn't realize authors had rivalries. I wonder who the "rivals" of my favorite authors are.

Amazons review system and tagging just plain sucks. Authors and fellow reviewers alike are abusive and predatory with Amazon turning a blind eye. Tagging has made it so you have to dig through pages of things you are not looking for to find anything. If I search for a specific book series by a specific author, I get all sorts of books that I am not interested in. Or search for a Cole Haan cover for my DX and get cover that either are not Cole Haan or even for the DX. Since Amazon started charging sales tax for my state, there is no more incentive to even deal with their broken system. I leave it to the loonies and cyberstalked. |
