Like in the first quarter of this year, Palm's further drop in handheld shipments was counterbalanced by the continued success of the company's Treo smartphones in both North America and EMEA. One reason for the success of smartphones and converged devices is because their are subsidized by mobile operators, which makes them relatively less expensive then handheld computers. Symbian still rules among smartphone operating systems with two-third of the market. Market research firm IDC also affirms Symbian's dominance in another study released this week which states that Symbian's market share was roughly 56 percent worldwide in 2004. |

Loss of data is the source of constant angst to many handheld users. Blue Nomad is now offering a beta version of BackupBuddy for Windows Mobile. The company has been around the Palm scene for some time, and I remember well that BackupBuddy for Palm has saved my butt on a couple of occasions. If you would like to join the free beta test, send an email to beta [at] bluenomad [dot] com to receive all required information. If you don't want to wait for the end of the beta period and need a good backup solution for Windows Mobile, I recommend you try out Sprite Backup Premium. |

The Motorola Q release is still at least a few months away, but the Net was literally flooded yesterday with news of the informally named "Blackberry Killer." Instead of repeating what has been already said, I compiled a list of interesting views, rants and raves about Motorola's latest stunt.

Jimmie of PalmAddicts has an interesting post describing how to allow a Palm Treo 650 to use your PC's Bluetooth connection to connect to the Internet. Basically all you have to do, well, if you're running MS Windows, is to enable
Update: Read Alex's post below for his initial findings. Looks like there is still some way to go for the release of the final version.
