Palm OS Treo 680 available for Cingular

There's a new Palm OS Treo 680 GSM smart phone now available from Palm. It will be in Palm stores Dec 1, but is now available for pre-order. The phone has no external antenna stub, and it comes in four colors. It's full functioned, but can be purchased for $199 with a 2-yr plan (or $399 unlocked without a plan). Palm is even providing 90-day free phone support.

Engadget has a Treo 680 review round-up. The general verdict is that it's good, but underwhelming. Two reviews mention the poor speakerphone, which is a deal-breaker for me. Why they bothered with a VGA camera is beyond me, it would've been better if they left it out altogether.

I'm not real worried about the speaker phone, as I find them annoying in the first place (I know others value them, and that's fine, as long as they don't (try to) talk to me on one

), and I agree that the camera is a waste. I would much rather go without. Say, there's another example of a single purpose device that's doing reasonably well: the digi-cam.
