Tachyon astronomy app with VGA support
Tachyon.Net is a free astronomy software for Pocket PC. From their website:
TachyonNET for Pocket PC .NET is an extremely sophisticated and detailed astronomy software for handheld devices. It was developed to be a companion in your night cosmic adventures. It is by far the most complex and advancing astronomical software for those fantastic and small gadgets. You will not find anything like that. This is not a toy, it is an advanced astronomical companion that is indispensable for your next Star Party. Forget that bulky power hungry notebook. Put the sky in your pocket. Check out the VGA screenshots - they look unbelievably great! |

look great. By any chance is it related to Taiyoukei and Seiza, which has a similar feel, and whose website seems to be currently down?

What an excellent program!! I wish I had it way back when I was taking Astronomy. I'd have liked the interactivity to help me conceptualize some of the subject matter. Sure would be nice if there was an equivalent on the Palm OS side...and a VGA Palm PDA to help those images really pop.

Believe it or not, I was an astronomy fanatic in high school. I gave planetarium shows and spent time at the school observatory which we could reserve as students. (Yea, it was kind of a ritzy school, and we have a very kind and rich benefactor.)
What an awesome tool something like this would have been back then for me! |

Heh I took intro to astrophysics in college for one semester. I found it dead boring, even though my professor was a real guy from NASA. But then again, I only took the class as an elective and if I remember correctly at that time my mind was so full of other, more important school matters that I couldn't really appreciate his lessons.
