AeroPlayer for Palm OS 6 is most likely not alone

I remember myself anxiously waiting to buy a Cobalt-based device sometime around one year ago. Obviously, if I hadn't decided to make an at least temporary switch to Pocket PC, I would have still been waiting today. Sammy from PalmAddicts discovered today that the company of AeroPlayer, the well-known audio player for Palm OS, is already working on version 6 of its software to support Palm OS 6.1.

What does that mean? It is most likely that a lot of software developers are currently working - using some kind of Cobalt simulator - on updated versions of their software to be ready once the first Cobalt device hits the market. I think I am not alone to believe that once this is going to happen, the name of Palm will resound throughout the land (in a positive way, I hope!).

It's such a thin line for these OS companies to build suspense in their future products, but while still maintaining momentum for their current products. It's hard to say whether PalmSource was right or wrong to announce Palm OS 6 so soon. They've created a buzz that slowly turned into disappointment.

It's good to know that the software developers are on board to help make the OS viable in the marketplace. This, plus the announcement of various hardware licensees, bodes well for the Palm platform going forward.

I agree, POL... That's sort of balance is always a tough one.

PalmSource leadership has been pretty forthright about that, and have indicated that they learned from the Cobalt experience and have become more careful to separate the announcement from the hype machine. That's very evident in the whole move to Linux so far. Very few promises, but lots of good news.
