I refuse to believe my eyes. Picture quality on both sites is appalling. They do only a disservice to eInk screen. If people have never seen one in person they would be turned off of eInk ebook readers at once regardless of all the bells and whistles that are described in the reviews.
How on the earth, websites that are supposedly specialising in professional reviews can produce such atrocious pictures in our digital age?

I like that quote from PC Pro's review :

"The background is now as white as real paper..." Huh, not quite.

I found that assertion a bit much to swallow myself when I read it!

The trouble is the Kindle is so good, and its price so much lower than that of the PRS-650, that most people won’t even get as far as considering it a good deal.
This is what I keep coming back to in my mind... I am paying more for the Sony when the Kindle is just as good to read from, wireless download, etc... What a brand sucker I am....

And you think paying less, to be (pretty much) restricted only to Amazon-purchased material is worth it because ...

Because to most of the folks that buy them, it makes no difference... Amazon has a great selection of books. Easy access to the books, no fuss on the process to buy/download them... idiot proof...

Anyway, in my case I am sticking with Sony (see my info, I just got the PRS-650!!) because my children are using the readers to download books from the library. PRS-600 with the light cover is going to my daughter, wife has the 505... and my son still likes paper book more than using the reader, but that will change as he gets older.

Cheers!

This is pretty much a fallacy, and untrue for anyone with the ability to download Calibre.

PCPro have made really poor use of flash: it's washed out the eink and cut the apparent contrast of the screen in half. Should have used a soft-box (or what's wrong with natural light, and going outside the office?). That's what comes from getting a reviewer, rather than a photographer, to take the photos.

PCA mention the English dictionary, but none of the multitude of foreign language dictionaries on the device, which would be a major selling point for me.

Maybe the issue is that ereaders are very different from other 'tech' gadgets - the idea is that the techy bits phase themselves out of your attention as you read. So perhaps gadget sites aren't the ideal people to be reviewing the devices.
