ssh from Kindle 3
Was wondering if anyone was working to get ssh on the kindle, or if it was even possible?
I realise web based works as it is, but that kind of defeats the point of ssh ![]() |

It isn't currently possible to get root access to the Kindle 3 without using the serial console port or having the special test files which only 1 person appears to have been lucky to have had left on their Kindle. The update mechanism now requires signatures and the Kindle will reject all other updates.

I'm not sure, but I think you are asking about an SSH client for Kindle?
I got a very simple terminal going on my Kindle 2, when I had it (keyboard input, screen display). You could ssh from there, if you installed a precompiled binary. But it wasn't very useful. I think web-based SSH actually could work for you, if you have sufficient access to the server to enable them. They are secure like SSH, so long as you use HTTPS and connect directly to the SSH server with the web browser. See the "Important issues", along with the list of available options at the bottom of this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web-based_SSH |

Also, now that the Fonts hack is out, it'll do a backup for you on the first run.

The Kindle stuff wasnt the problem. It was the Windows / Linux stuff (usb drivers, setting up the usb lan, ...) but now it is working.
