Hello all!
I'm currently working my way through David Weber's "Honor Harrington" series and LOVE them! Best place I've found to pick 'em up is at Webscriptions.com. However, I am still looking for either ebooks (pref. HTML or LIT format, suitable for "Plucking") or audiobooks of C. S. Forester's "Horatio Hornblower" series, and having very little luck. What I have found is just the first few books, with the exception of the first. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be mighty grateful! Thanks! ~Tim ![]() |

I found a number of them here:

Of course these are fully legal, licensed copies... right? I wasn't aware that the Hornblower texts predated 1928, or had otherwise lapsed into the public domain. Xenophon |

The reason you're not finding them, AceHarddrive, is that they're not PD (as Xenophon, pointed out), and there are no legal e-versions of them, at least not that I've been able to find, and I've looked for them myself.

I guess that just leaves the old-fashioned wood-pulp and ink version, huh? Oh well . . . *sigh*

Well, I googled "Hornblower audiobooks" which led me to a thread on a board (Puzo.org) which had ALL the Hornblower books listed. I had to use Google's cache of the website, since the url led nowhere. Apparently each book was divided up into at least two parts (probably for ease of uploading/downloading). When I copy/pasted the first part of "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower," I was taken to the rapidshare site. According to the page I was on, the first part of the book was just over 104MB. Since this was (IMHO) a site for pirated audiobooks, I decided to forego downloading it. No telling what may have been put on the download! Oh, well. I can still get the books in paperback form from Amazon.com. I just don't like being forced into buying more bulky (compared to ebooks) books. You guys should see my bedroom! All I would have to do is remove my bed/dresser/nightstand . . . and redecorate a bit to have a neat little den/library! Of course, I could (even though it would be a huge PITA) get the books from the public library or buy them from Amazon and scan the pages onto my computer, then assemble them into Plucker ebooks.
I was recently on YouTube and entered "Hornblower" into the search box. I got quite a lot of videos taken from the A&E series, but none from the original (starring Gregory Peck), which IMHO is the best of them all! Just why Forester's Hornblower books are not in PD is a mystery to me, since others of his are! ~Tim ![]() |

There is a very nice "The Hornblower Companion" by C.S. Forester with Illustrations and Maps by Samuel Bryant. Little, Brown and Company. Torrent-able. |

All of the Hornblower novels and stories can be purchased in epub, mobi or pdf format from eNet Press (https://enetpress.com/). I believe that the Kindle versions are also available from Amazon.

I have The Young Hornblower Comprising Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, Lieutenant Hornblower, and Hornblower and the Hotspur on my Sony from Penguin books. The formatting is just adequate, so I haven't got round to reading them yet.

This thread is almost 5 years old. It's as well to consider the context of the post to which you're replying - the eBook situation in early 2007 was somewhat different to what it is today.

Well, since this old thread was resurrected, I'll add my comments.
Audiobooks as well as ebooks were originally mentioned. I can't help with audiobooks, but how about some radio dramatizations from 1953? Like most old radio programs, the copyrights were not renewed, so download at will. http://www.archive.org/details/Adven...tio_Hornblower Some day I'll have to give these a listen myself. I have over 200GB of OTR (Old Time Radio), so it takes me a while ![]() Joe |
