I wouldn't want it as a full-blown computer, but as a *small* iPad replacement that is big enough to function as a decent ereader... Sure, 7" is big enough.

My point was simply that the iPad doesn't have anything to fear from a 7" tablet. And it doesn't.

I'm not so sure. Personally, I found the iPad a bit big and heavy for my needs, and would buy a 7" version. Even better would be a PRS-900-shaped one - I like that form factor.

We'll find out what the market thinks is the best form factor after the next 6-18 months of tablet wars, but it's too early to say that the 7" format won't prove to be the most popular, I think. It is, after all, the most popular for books, which suggests to me that it might be the ideal compromise in terms of form factor.

The point I think you're missing is that most iPad owners (MobileRead-ers excepted, obviously) buy them primarily for games, video and Internet. I seriously doubt that a 7" device is going to take those customers away from Apple.

I'll grant you that folks looking for a color LCD tablet primarily for reading might be interested.

I would be buying it as a browser, not a reader - and I'd prefer a 7" device. I'm not saying that there's a right answer, just that the market will decide on the best form factor, and I'm not convinced that the current iPad size will win out (of course, it might).

I'd consider it as a replacement for my T/X, but even 7" is probably too large for that.

If I bought a 7 inch device, my plan would be to get rid of my smart phone and go really cheap prepaid for cell. My main need in a smartphone is for things a tablet does well--syncing calendar, a bit of surfing, etc. I'd read on a 7 inch LCD in those odd moments that sometimes happen during a day and leave my "real" reader at home.

Hey, I've been looking for a good 7" MID. This will be awesome if the tablet is good, and at a fair price.
