online Librarys

Hello everyone . Sorry to be bugging everyone but im not sure where to look this up or where to ask. I was wondering if anyone knew of any online library's? I live in a small town so the library there doesn't do e-books and the same thing with the surrounding towns.

Most web sites that sell ebooks also have some kind of free section. B&N (http://www.bn.com/) does (follow the "stories" link on their web site), Baen (http://baen.com/) does (in their webscription section). There's also Project Guttenberg (http://http://www.gutenberg.org/) is an extensive collection of public domain ebooks (thousands of them). There are many others.

Try Overdrive's library finder.

Also, I believe The Free Library of Philadelpha has $15 non-resident cards, good for one year.

If you tell us what state you live in, others might be able to point out libraries in your state that will let you access their library for free.

I had to get a card from the city a couple hours away to get good ebook library access. Maybe you could do the same?

The Free Library of Philadelphia is great. However, I am kind of surprised they want you to send a physical check in. There is no online payment method? Snail mail from Australia could take forever.

Not that I am in Australia.

Sorry I didn't mean to leave the state out. I live in Idaho. Close to Ontario Oregon.

I took a scan through that thread and did not see anything about credit card payments. Can you provide the URL?

The instructions are mentioned in a post Columbus made...

As an alternate to our overseas patrons who might have trouble sending a payment in U.S. dollars we are allowing you to send a clear scanned copy of the application to erefcpsd (insert you know what here) freelibrary.org If anything is unclear please type the information in the text of email as well.
5 to 10 business days after we have received your application we will send you a card number along with information about how to logon and pay via credit card the $15 yearly fee. We will allow you 2 business days to complete the payment before deleting the record. Once you have made the payment please email a confirmation to erefcpsd (insert you know what here) freelibrary.org so we can activate your card.

You could check out the "Lending Library" wiki entry right here on Mobileread.

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries

You might want to check out one of the libraries in the Oregon Digital Library Consortium if you are close.
