Sunlight makes page turning difficult

I have seen some posts about people that have screen fading issues with sunlight. Mine does something a little different.

When in the sunlight the page does not fade, but if you turn a page with direct sun on the screen, the new page does not load clearly. It looks a little like you are getting low on toner.

To counter this I turn the reader on its side so the screen is in the shade whilst I turn the page.

Is this normal? Do other e-ink devices do this? or is it a Sony thing?

I would be interested to hear of other people's experiences with sunlight.

hey ss! My reader is fine when turning pages in the sunlight (prs 505). I have heard of your problem before, for other sony readers as well. if the page is covered while changing, then uncovered, no problem. if it changes page while exposed to bright sun, not so great.

I have the 900 and have never had an issue with page turning in sunlight.

For me the 900 has been awesome. I've had the 500 then the 505 left Sony for 4 months with the Nook and now with the 900 and it's great.

I've seen both issues discussed. My 900 has the same problem you mentioned: faded pages if the page is changed in sunlight. See this thread for some discussion of both cases.

I've sent mine back to Sony for repair.

Bob

Now that I have been told by a few MR members that my screen is faulty, I have set in motion a plan to see what Sony will do.

Easy if you live in the US right!

1. Send email to Sony to see what they can do. Response..

2. Go to the local Sony Authorised joint with the reader.

They cannot help because the product is not on their list of authorised products. well I knew that because Sony don't seem to think that Ozzies would want their product.

Now to step 3. Call the customer support line. I will wait for a time that I am feeling more patient, because I know they will think I have two heads talking about a reader.
