Wow. Great price on a great reader. Last time sites started putting the Sony Readers "on sale", that "sale" price quickly became the new official list price for the various models. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that happens quickly with the $99.96 price.

Bestbuy.com has it -- the Sony Silver PR300S for $127.99 ... easily the lowest price from a major retailer ever.

Ooops! And the Sony online store is selling it for $19.99 through the end of Aug with a $25 gift card ... so effectively $124.99. .... and includes a cover! That brings it pretty much on par with the $99 offer, doesn't it?

It's very hard to put the genie back in the bottle so, yes, I think this actually does herald the $99 price point by a brand name player. The unit does not have touch screen; does not have wifi; is 5" not 6" ... Sony could do quite well at $99 to help support hiring pricing for its other models in comparison.

One the Amazon Kindle 3 actually begins shipping, Sony (and Kobo) will have to do something like this.
