Help: no longer able to upgrade firmware
Hi everyone,
My jetbook is working fine with the exception of not able to flash/reflash firmwares. A few weeks ago, I upgraded my firmware from 0.34c to 0.35k. Today, I tried to upgrade to 0.35m without success. I cannot get pass the Jetbook screen. That is I cannot get to the firmware upgrade confirmation screen. I ran the diagnostic tests using power/menu/zoom and found the following results: Simple Memory Check SD RAM - pass NOR Flash Checksum - fail NAND Flash Checksum - mtd3 - pass - mtd4 - fail Anyone knows why I can no longer upgrade firmwares? I recalled reading that someone on this board had issues with flashing and had some failed tests. Thanks |

With checksum errors, it sounds like you need to re-download the update and format
the SD card you are using, then try again. Luck; Ken |

You might try 0.35a first before 0.35k.

Hi Kralik, I'm on 0.35k. I had no problem flashing 0.35k a few weeks ago. Today, I cannot flash 0.35m. In fact as a test, I tried to reflash 0.35k and got stuck at the Jetbook screen. I just cannot get to the flashing confirmation screen to begin flashing the firmware. |

Sometimes you need to go back before you can go forward. You should really try
Kralik's suggestion. Downloading a fresh clean copy of the one you have been having problems with (and internal checksum errors) might be a good idea as well. Up to you. Luck; Ken |

Sorry, I misread your post. Have you tried flashing 0.35m twice in a row? Sometimes two flashes does the trick (indeed, that is the way to get to Chinese firmware. First flash seems like a brick, second flash fixes the trouble).

Hi hiaig,
I have something similar with the mtd4 failing and NOR flashing problem, the difference is that I just installed the V0.35m and I can't go back to the V0.33g (for me the last version sucks), I think that is probably because of this issue so I wondering how Ectaco helps you with this ? Hi, I was the person who posted on this this past fall and a thread also on Ectaco forum. I was not able to upgrade. Could not get past the Ectaco logo screen. When running diagnostics, there were memory errors and checksum errors. Ectaco advised me to return it for warranty replacement along with a copy of my original purchase invoice from Newegg. They replaced it immediately for me. I'm following the advice of another poster on the forum and only loading books on my SD card and loading them directly onto the card from my computer, no cable involved. Hopefully, nothing will corrpt using this method.

I forgot to update this post. I contacted Ectaco (Phil) and was told to return the unit for a replacement. A new unit arrived shortly thereafter.
