Smile New to this forum and to e-reading

Hello to all of you!

Since a couple of days I've been reading here in an attempt to educate myself on the subject of e-readers, e-books and software like Calibre. It's quite a lot to take in for a newbie!

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a Pocketbook 302 and I loved reading on it (except for the occassional glare and fading letters in the sunlight). Unfortunately, I experienced all kinds of problems with the device concerning wifi and connecting to my pc. I've sent PB back and ereaderbookstore says they will solve the problems.

In the meantime I'm passing time by trying to learn more and by trying to catalogue my books in Calibre (and finding more books).

I don't know if I will have anything helpfull to add on the forum. You all seem so experienced and technical!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Not to worry - we were all newbies to e-readers at some point. Just take things one step at a time and soon you'll be advising folks here like you really know what you're talking about. (I got my first e-reader about 3 or 4 months ago and was starting from 0.)

Downloading Calibre and just playing with it for a while is a great way to start. (Or at least it's how I got started while waiting for my Sony Reader to be delivered.)

Thank you for your kind welcome. I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved reading on my PB. And I am enjoying myself now by 'playing'with Calibre and reading this forum.

By the way, the problems with my PB included much more than just a failing wifi-connection. It seems there were software issues: the device wasn't recognized by any pc or laptop, neither under XP nor Windows 7. The USB port isn't functioning properly either, just as the touchscreen. I cant install the new firmware or charge the device. And last but not least, the screen fades in sunlight.
So, I feel I had no choice but to return the reader.

Good to have your company, Dutch Reader. Hope your technical hitches are soon fixed. And don't get this place wrong -- sure there are 'experts' here in several fields, but we're an international community with a few wee things in common, and we all have something to contribute -- even if it's only encouragement occasionally. Very best wishes. Neil
