Apple knew about antenna problem

The lead antenna designer, and a "major carrier" (wonder who that could be) expressed concern to Apple and directly to Steve Jobs about the antenna design problems - a year ago...

It will be hard to CYA now.

As a practical matter, it doesn't seem to matter whether they knew or not. It's clearly a problem, so they should address it. Saying they didn't know wouldn't help at all.

This is a forum for e-readers, not phones.
There are literally thousands of news reports out there on this very issue out there, let's try and stick to the agenda, eh?

Many people use their phones as ereaders - it's always been part of this forum.

it matters because it goes toward ethics and credibility of the company and executives of the company in question. In this case it is especially relevant due to Apple's obvious backroom/star-chamber involvement in aiding the "Big 5 Cartel" to move to the "agency model" which is about as anti-consumer a practice as exists today. It matters because it supports some of what Apple has long claimed they excel at which is "caring" about delivering the best products for their customers so the customer need do nothing more than shop via the brand itself.

Apple is not alone in this sort of issue...all mfg's are of the same ilk and, like the toothpaste tragedy of what, almost a decade ago now, they farm out mfg to the low bidder and look the other way when there are marginal if not down right criminal practices later down the road. They keep a level of abstraction from the actual mfg process so as to be able to claim "...it's not our fault because we care..." BS...

Wow, you're on a roll. You've got issues with Apple that go way beyond this antenna problem, which they should fix. No matter how they deal with it, though, it won't change the company's stance on your other concerns. The thing is, no one has to buy Apple's products.

The only real question, relevance-wise, is whether this belongs in General or in the Apple section. But as a discussion of the ethics and credibility of a manufacturer of devices (both phones and tablets) used as ebook readers, it's certainly relevant to MR. I'm not an Apple user myself, but I know if something like the Sony rootkit scandal came up, I'd certainly want to discuss it with my fellow Sony Reader owners. Nobody -- and no company -- is a weasel only part of the time.
