Wireless Charging Pad *finally* coming?

Remember Slashpower? Promising concept (they've been promising it for four years now, in fact), but so far it's vaporware, with no prospective release date in sight (or at least none on their web site).

It looks like they're getting some competition now. From the SciFi Channel's Tech Blog, here's a company called Wildcharge that has a similar device that's supposed to be thinner, lighter, more versatile in shape, color, etc., and as an added bonus available early '07. (according to their website, anyway )

From that site:
Quote:
WildCharge is the first--and as yet the only company--to provide a universal solution: a solution that actually works for virtually any mobile device. This is ideal for mobile professionals who can now trade in their multiple chargers and adapters for one streamlined package.

Our solution is comprised of the WildCharger™ pad, a charging pad that is less than 0.1" thin and can be inexpensively produced using a variety of materials, rigid or flexible. It may be placed on any flat surface, such as a desk or airplane seat tray.

Its counterpart component, the WildCharger™ adapter, readily attaches to or is integrated into mobile electronic devices. A device that is enabled with our technology can be placed anywhere and at any orientation on the WildCharger™ pad and it will receive instantaneous, uninterrupted power.

Moreover, the WildCharge solution allows you to charge multiple devices with varying power needs--all at one time!

Our solution is built safe for consumers, equipment, and data. The unique WildCharge technology does not interfere with the operation of electronic equipment, has no impact on reception quality, and emits no harmful radiation.

Our solution is also efficient - power is delivered as if the devices were plugged directly into the wall.

What's more, we do it at a cost manufacturers can afford to widely adopt and integrate - a cost that is competitive with standard charger costs.
I thought the bit about an adaptor for existing devices was particularly intriguing.

Also, they have a nice FAQ file, it's a PDF so it's a bit slow, but an interesting read to the, um ... interested.

They said they'd be showcasing their "WildCharger" at the CES2007 next January. I remain sceptical until I see it myself, because Slashpower has been promising us wireless charging for what... two or three years now? There must be a reason (probably physics...) why it's taking them so long to deliver.

Yeah, I'm in the same 'show me' boat, but they actually had a date, unlike slashpower, so I figured, what the hey.

Apparently this isn't an inductive system but a distributed contact system of some sort. They're not very clear on the details.

FCC stall more likely. Anything that has to do with waveforms energies encountering humans is thouroughly examined and in this type of exposure time is the necessary frame.
