New here! Thinking about a change...
So many changes in e-readers lately and I am so tempted! Currently I have a Sony 505 with wedge light cover. I have used it for about a year and a half and have really enjoyed it! There is nothing wrong with it but I am surely intrigued by the nook with wifi. My 13 year old daughter reads on a Kindle and its a great device, too. I look forward to seeing what the upcoming model might have to offer. Anyone leave the 505 behind for newer readers?

I traded my 505 for a Kindle at the beginning of the year solely because I wanted a dictionary for French books, and text to speech. Other than lacking those two features, there was nothing wrong with my Sony and I had been very happy.

I purchased the K2 over the 505 because my 505's screen broke.
I went for the K2 because of the Kindle book store, Dictionary, Text-To-Speech(TTS), highlight, annotate. They truly enhance the ebook reading experience and because of it I like my K2 much much more than my 505. The 3G experience was a real pleasant surprise. It took me months before I started using it since I had no desire for it. It ends up to be a great experience and a convince to have Would I have upgraded the 505 to the Kindle if the 505 was working? No, they both accomplish the most important aspect of eBook reading and that is a light portable reading solution. The batter life is great and the portability is excellent. =X= |

I traded my 505 for a Nook wifi about 2 weeks ago. I thought about it a long time while asking for opinions on this site. I first decided not to switch since there is nothing wrong with it and I just loved it so much. However, once the Nook wifi came out for just $149. I just couldn't resist. I pretty much switch because of the more frequent firmware updates and the abilities to be hacked. To be honest, I am probably not going to ever hack it unless I am out of warranty. I am using the Nook only to read fiction books and not going to do much else but I'd to have all the features just in case I might need it someday. You just never know. The two devices are virtually the same other than the touch screen which I have come to love! Shopping via wifi is awesome even though it's something I never thought I'd like before when I owned the 505. Also, swiping page turn is a pretty nice touch. The screens have about the same contrast. There are some things you might have to get used to IMO:
1. The weight (with cover on) is for me significantly heavier. 2. It's also real bulky compare to the 505. I love the slimness of the 505 itself and the included brown cover. 3. No collections option as you might already knew - I only have about 100 or so books so it doesn't take that long to browse through them. Plus I can just go to reading now and get on reading since I always read one book at the time. All in all, I love the Nook. If I have to do it again, I'd do it. The most awesome things about the Nook in my shallow opinion are the look (nice, futuristic with the touch screen, and sleek) and the abilities to accessorize! ![]() I had a hard time finding the cute accessories for the 505 since I bought it 8 months ago. I now own 2 skins and 2 cases for the Nook. Loveeee it! ![]() |

Thank you for your replies! Superstitious, the touch screen page flip and wifi are my two biggest reasons for wanting to "upgrade". I use the 505 with the wedgelight cover so its got substantial weight and bulk, IMO. So I guess switching over to the nook's bulk wouldn't be too bad.... but I lose the light and I use that quite a bit. Decisions, decisions!!
