ePub not recognised on RC2 [Solved]
Last weekend I upgraded from FW 1.7.1 to FW 2.0RC2. I must say, the interface looks much more polished. However, I have a problem opening ePub files. It looks like the DR1000 does not recognise ePub. ePub files are shown with an icon showing 'abc' in a circle. No metadata (title, author) is shown, only the filename. If I try to open the file nothing happens.
I have tried ePub files generated with Calibre, ePub files downloaded from Manybooks.net, and ePub files from a commercial ebook store. None of them work. I tried using a Mac and two different PCs to put the ePub files on the DR, both using the DR as a card reader, and by ejecting the card and putting it in a dedicated card reader in the computer. Nothing seems to make any difference. I can read PDFs fine. I checked the gconf schema file, but that includes the ePub format. In the detailed view, the file type is shown as the string shown in the schema file, so it appears the schema file is read. I also reinstalled FW 2.0RC2, but that didn't change anything either. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? Last edited by Groen; 06-23-2010 at 07:28 AM. |

you could try this:
connect your DR1000 to your PC using the USB cable rename the metadata.db file in the folder with the epub files, to metadata.old.db disconnect your DR1000 a new metadata.db is created. The epub files should show up either as a thumbnail of the first page or an icon shaped as a book. you could also try to use a different (empty) SD card. This way you can keep the annotations you made in the 1.7.1 firmware. on the old SD card. The icon with abc in it marks a txt file. I think the old metadata.db files are still on the SD card. The 2.0 firmware uses a different table structure in these metadata.db files. Or something went wrong during the migration of the metadata.db information when the new firmware was installed. More info check the "Notes for upgraders from V1.x" section on this webpage from iRex's blog: http://i-to-i.irexnet.com/2010/06/03...tware-release/ |

Cheers! metadata.db was the culprit
Thanks, Pauli!
The metadata.db was the problem. I did start with a new, clean SD-card, but once FW2.0RC2 booted fine, I copied some directories from my old FW 1.7.1 card. I moved the ePub files to another directory, without a metadata.db, and now it works fine. Groen |

On second thought, I don't think metadata.db was the problem. I later got into the same situation, where I tried to get mht-files working at my DR1000. At some point the DR started refusing opening ePubs again. There was no metadata.db file in the directory. However, moving the ePub files to another directory, then having the DR index the card, made the DR open ePubs again. Moving the ePubs back to their old location did not bring back the problem, I could still open ePubs.
Maybe the entries for the ePubs in global.db got stale somehow? |
