Asia Optical began to deliver VGA lens kits for the iPhone 4 in May 2010, with a monthly shipment volume of three million units currently, according to company chairman Robert Lai.

Digitimes isn't the most reliable of sources. But this is one reason why Apple can put cutting edge tech like the Retina Displays in their products-they can order them in huge volumes. It is much more challenging for smaller firms to try to use untried/new technologies in their products..and, conversely, more challenging for new technology firms to get their components into the mainstream.
