My Answer to this Forum's Title: iPad
I've bought an iPad today. 16 GB, WiFi. I went for the cheapest model because I already have an iPhone 3G plan and that's enough for me. I'm very happy with the iBooks app, although there's no content available for Canadians in the iBooks store yet
![]() It's to early for me to say that I'm satisfied with the device itself (I only used it for few hours), I know all its downsides and I'm absolutely NOT an Apple fan, but the iBooks app is in my opinion quite impressive. Last edited by Tony Szmuk; 06-03-2010 at 04:45 PM. |

I'm confused. You want "your books, your way" but you're willing to let Apple control how you access not just your books, but all your videos and music, too?

Glad to hear you're happy with the iPad so far, Tony. By the way, Phishstyx, Apple can't dictate content. The first thing Tony did with his iPad for instance was to load 100+ DRM-free BeWrite Books titles in various formats to check them out. Cheers. Neil

I understand your feelings against Apple's proprietary policy, I don't like it more than you do, but the iPad is a success in many ways. And although I'm not an Apple fan, not even a sympathizer, kudos to them for pushing this mobile computing concept that has been tried before (by them and Microsoft and others) and failed. This time they got it right. And all the other manufacturers are trying now to catch up with them. That's good news for us, the consumers. |

I share your like of the "iBooks" App, by the way. It's the nicest ePub reader I've so far used.

Yep, I got crashes too on the iPad and not only with the iBooks app. I went back to the store and they changed my unit. Now everything looks fine. It seems that the first unit I've got had a hardware problem, but maybe it's too soon to jump to conclusions.

Personally, I find the iPad's ppi a little too low for comfortable reading. I prefer my iPhone, even with its smaller screen (163ppi vs. 132ppi, for comparison a 6" eInk display is 167ppi).
Still, if you must use an iPad as an ereader, there are better options than iBooks. The iBooks reader is too busy, with the non-interactive page stacks on the side (seriously, why don't those show your progress through a book? It's a pretty trivial calculation, but as of right now that's just eye candy). Kindle on iPad is better in terms of presentation, getting all of the annoying stuff out of your way so you can just read. But the best is Stanza, which just released version 3.0 with full iPad support. |

Definitely sounds as if you had a problem unit, Tony. Mine is absolutely rock solid.
