Back in '08 when this book was offered free by the publisher one of the legit places to get it was Scribd, but yes in looking at the formatting of the one linked above it's almost certainly a pirate copy I'd think. Especially since the uploader isn't the publisher.

I've read The Surgeon and the next book in the series. Both are very good. Well worth the price.
