Snodgrass Vacation -- Free Until October 19

Here's what a few people are saying about Snodgrass Vacation, a politically incorrect spoof on a Disney Vacation!

(available at Smashwords for .99. It can also be had at BN and Amazon)

Hilarious!

Anyone who as done repeat vacations to the Big Mouse in Fl should get one heck of kick out of the novel. Dave Conifer gave voice to many of my unspoken thoughts while watching people cut lines, use strollers as weapons, gave a name to "wormers" and "scouts" The addition story line about chasing down a fraud maynot have been necessary, but I thought it gave the story more places to go than simply waiting in line at the Parks. I too know a "Vinnie" in RL and I hate to say it but I've got alot of "Nancy" in me- I'm the Disney planner of the group.

I laughed so hard at some parts that my hubby put down his book and read my Kindle cause he had to know what I found so amusing.

==============

A Riot!!!

In a Snodgrass vacation, we follow two families as they attempt to make it through that magical amusement park we all know and love. I thought this book was a complete riot. I think part of that is due to the fact that I can identify with the plight through an amusement park, but my experience wasn't nearly as funny and riddled with on liners and funny characters. The book is told from the point of view of one of the fathers on the trip - Dave. I thought Vinnie's one-liners were hysterical. I had to bookmark some of them! Vinnie was probably my favorite character. Nancy was a really funny character - I need her to plan my next vacation! I thought the storyline was funny, but it also went somewhere as Dave and Vinnie were on a mission to prove a case of fraud. I liked this because a story about only an amusement park could possibly get boring. Didn't happen at Snodgrass though - Dave and Vinnie were anything bu boring! I am eagerly looking forward to a sequel.

I tore through it and it was a fun book! I really enjoyed it. I kind of wish there was a sequel where the two families go on another family vacation somewhere else the next summer.

Thanks Haggis! That's really all it's supposed to be. A fun book with a simple plot that is just robust enough to hang some humor on.

I've already started sketching out a sequel. You've heard of a 'beach read?' This is a 'beach write.' The families aren't going on another vacation (I'm afraid I'd do all the same jokes). Instead, Vinnie and Dave will be coaching an intramural soccer team. I've been storing up all my observations as a soccer coach and have a lot of material.

At one point I was thinking of having Dave and Vinnie find a time-travel machine so I could plop them in various critical points in world history. That would be fun, and I'd also do some fun spoofing on time travel novels. But then I decided it might be too derivative of Ted and Bill's Excellent Adventure. What do you all think?

Thanks again for taking the time to read my story.

As a Floridian and a fan of writers like Carl Hiassen, I had to download this book.

I recommend : Team Rodent By Carl Hiassen

Dave, I think there's room enough in the world for whatever a person wants to write. I say go for it. I read so much "heady" stuff for work that when I read for fun, I APPRECIATE a little silliness from time to time, especially if it's well done. I'm not looking for Shakespeare or Longfellow when I plop down with my Kindle. I'm looking for Snodgrass Vacation or some goofy Star Wars book.

Disney Contest!

Think you know Walt Disney World? Care to put your knowledge to the test?

There's a twist and it involves Snodgrass Vacation, the comedic novel about a Disneylike adventure.

For details check “Disney Contest Rules” under the discussions tab on the Dave Conifer Fan Page (see link in my signature):

The contest will start on Tuesday, June 1 at 9:00 p.m. EST. Good Luck!

Thanks to your previous free offer I d/l and read this - and it is quite amusing, great light read.

Without appearing too negative, may I ask if you are self-editing? If so, you might want to consider getting a second set of eyes on the final output. There were some typo/word choices that made me (Amateur Mister Language Person) wince. Still a good read, nothing that really detracted from the story, but polishing touches that might help move you up the next rung.

Thanks again!

I'm glad you liked it. That's the first time I've heard that criticism. Can you think of any examples offhand?

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't take notes - there was at least one "another thing coming" vs "another think coming" (typo). I kinda remembered that one being in more than one place but ADE's search says I'm wrong. I think there were a couple of homophones where the spelling didn't match the usage. E.g. "bear naked" but I don't recall specifics Unfortunately the NookE isn't particularly conducive to marking such things, but I'll try to remember to keep better track next time I read this kind of material.

Again, not offered in the negative sense of "critical" - it's just that one of my non-day-jobs involves a lot of presentation review so my eye tends to be drawn to nitpicky stuff like that. I recently had a discussion with one of my presenters about "insure" vs "ensure" but at least one online dictionary disagrees with my interpretation

Again, good read and thank you!

Dave,

I'm building a list in anticipation of the ebook reader that is on order for me. One of those "Your birthday present was backordered, so here's a piece of paper describing it" sorts of things where one gets to enjoy a big dose of anticipation. Right up there on the list is "Snodgrass Vacation". From the reactions you've been getting, I'm really looking forward to the read.

Best,
Alan
