Manhattan as it was

I've never been to the US, but this part of New York must have seemed idyllic in 1609 when the Europeans first invaded.... I came across this project whilst reading a back issue of National Geographic ....

Very interesting manhattan today and in 1609/

She means Hochelaga. We have been through this before. But look Geoff, NY is really the most beautiful town of this Galaxy (from what we know). No doubt about that.

Ah, oh, why not Quebec City, Sandwich Massachusetts, or a box of sardines. A part from Taos, I have been in all those places, in some of them I even lived for some time and charming as they are (you mention Munich, but have you been to Hamburg or Berlin?), they cannot compete with the Big Apple by far. IMHO of course.

I've been to Hamburg, big ugly industrial city. Berlin before the wall came down, of course it was quite unique. the east was dirty and even in the late 80s still had rubble from the war on the sidewalks and in the streets. "lovely" soviet architecture was everywhere.

new york sucks. big time. it's dirty, noisy, smelly, the people are rude. you want it? you take it

Ugly? Who knows what happened during your stay and where did you go. I had to go there about once a month for few days and for a couple of years and apart for the wind I had the most pleasant stay. Maybe because I am a northener in nature and I fit in the scene.

people.

If I just had the money to maintain what I consider a decent level of comfort and if (big if) I wanted to live in a city again, I certainly would pick NY. Paris I love, and it is so close, but in NY you feel in the center of the world. In Midtown you look up and the sights take the breath away. The shops, the eateries, the shows, the art. The modern Babilon. Anyhow, you pays your moneys you pick your choices.

it was just normal New York, dirty loud, ugly noisy. if I MUST be in a city I will take any of the ones I already mentioned, or Nuerenbug, Strassbourg, Vienna, Heidelburg.
