Introduction and a Question

Hello there. Just joined the forum today. I was one of the first to know about e-books and the like because my daughter was one of the first employees of E-ink in Boston several years ago. I always liked the idea of this technology, and liked it even more when there was a family connection!

I also have a question but have to admit that I haven't had a chance to look around very much yet. So, it may be a question that has already been asked and answered.

My question is quite simple: how do I get a book off my Sony reader?

Books that I have bought from Sony go back into the Sony E-book Library, but books that I have gotten from others and which are in other formats, I'm not sure how to get them off my reader nor where to put them. I've finished reading a few books and no longer need them on the reader so ....

If anyone can help with this question I would be grateful.

Cheers, Tony

I should have mentioned that I am using Calibre to organize the books that I have not bought from Sony.

Hello and Welcome,

To remove a book using Calibre, click on the icon for your reader at the top of the Calibre screen (just below the menu bar, in that mostly empty window), while the reader is plugged in. This will give you a list of book on your reader instead of your library in your computer. Just click on the book you want to remove and press the delete book button on the menu bar.

You can also delete books right from your Reader screen. I don't have mine in front of me, so if somebody hasn't posted directions by the time I get home tonight, I will update this message with exact instructions. It isn't too hard though, and you can probably find it yourself. I think it's part of the book menu.

Hi Tony welcome,

on the Reader Library screen, on the left you see your reader, open it by clicking on it. You see Books. Click on it. On the right side pane you see all the books you have on. Select the book you want to kill. Klick the right button of the mouse. There you see delete. Do it. Hope it is clear.

Before doing this, at least the first time, make sure you have a back up of the books.

I do not kill books because I put them on the SD card.

Question New Member question

I am a new owner of the Nook and love it. My wife however prefers the Kindle and we would like to swap books.

My question is the we have an iMac running Snow Leopard. When I attempted to download the Mac OS client I received a 'no such page found' notice. Does Calibre not support Apple or did I miss something with the download?

Thanks and sorry for newbe question . . .

I think I know what you are talking about. OK, Sony hides the actual books on your computer. Do a search for one of your books, find the file, and be sure to remember where it is. Copy the books from it to a folder on your desktop or something convenient, but dont disturb te Sony folder. Then you can back up the desktop folder to a flash drive, copy it to a disk, whatever you wish, and the original stays secure.

Enjoy your new toy!

Di nuovo, ti ringrazio per l'informazione.

Thanks

Dear Beppe,
Thanks for the information. I continued to play with the reader and Calibre yesterday and eventually figured out what to do. I had to disable that automatic library opener that was in the Sony folder. I did that and then I could use both of the programmes independently. When I did use the Sony Library software now, it finally showed me my reader. I just removed things from the reader then and since they live in Calibre anyway, I don't have to worry about losing them.

However, I was unable to get Calibre to show me what was on the reader. I will try that all again. Perhaps I hadn't disabled the automatic launching of the Sony Library software the last time I tried to use Calibre to see what was on the reader.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Tony

Thanks

Thanks for your suggestions. I had to first disable the automatic launching of the Sony Library software. Also, for some unknown reason, even when my Reader was hooked up to the computer, the Sony Library Software (one of the most user unfriendly interfaces I have ever come across!) didn't show me my own reader.

Eventually it did and so I removed the books that way.

Again, thanks for taking the time to help.

Sincerely, Tony
