My first set of rechargeable batteries ran out of juice today, at least that's what I think happened. The jetbook lite just froze up and wouldn't reset when I tried the reset button. I took out the rechargeables and put in the original regular ones that came with the jbl. They were fresh, hadn't been used. Still a blank screen...wouldn't turn on. So I put back the used rechargeables...still no go. Tried fresh rechargeables..no go. So I put back the regular unused batteries and attached the jbl to my computer with the usb cord, and now it works...with regular batteries or rechargeables(a newly charged set). I tried changing the batteries again...same problem, a blank screen. Repluged the jbl into computer again...all ok. Unplugged it from computer, all ok again.
Has anyone else had this happen, or is there something wrong with my jbl? Or am I doing something wrong?? ![]() |

There has been a lot of discussion about this type of problem on the Ectaco Jetbook Forum --

Thank you for your reply, but I still see no solution with the replies in the forum that was referred. Has anyone on this forum run across this problem and a solution? I have also noticed that my jbl doesn't let me know when my rechargeable batteries are running down...the battery indicator doesn't move at all.

Even checking from the system setting menu (battery). I easily have 12 hour of use and it still reports 100% running latest firmware JL08-v0.15d-b |

First it takes longer to start up right after replacing the batteries, especially if
you are changing the type of battery as well. It takes a 3 count on the power button, then a wait for it to start. Normally after the 3 count you will see a flash to part of the display before the cold boot proceeds. The only time I have had the indicator at 100% after 12hrs was with NiZn 1.6v batteries, on a test run where one of the four went bad (tested at 0.5v, while the others were ~1.5v) These running v0.15. My firmware is .15d so it must be the new firmware. I just ran a test again, and this time I took out the rechargeable batters, left them out for a few seconds, then replaced them...then held the power button on for about 4 seconds, and hooray...it powered right up. So I am hoping my initial problem came as a combination of the first set of batteries running down while I was reading, and my own inexperience
![]() ![]() But the other problem does still exist...the battery indicator really does not move...at all. So I guess I will have to just change them when I think a reasonable amount of time has passed. Thanks again. |

I've been running the Powergenix NiZn 1.6v batterys, and I never see the battery meter change until till it pops up the warning for low battery. Then when I press ok it will go from 4 bars down to 2 bars.
I just run it till it pops up the warning, then swap the battery's out. Lasts me a week on average, which is good in my opinion. I was charging my regular Jetbook twice a week. |

That's interesting about the low battery warning. My jbl didn't give me a warning, just froze up. But maybe that's because I was doing a bunch of stuff with it at the time. I will be looking for that warning in a few days. Does everyone using rechargeables get that warning when they need changing?

You might want to checkout the "Best rechargables for the Jetbook?" thread.
I am consistently getting at least 20 hours of actual reading time from the rechargables I am testing, in the JBL. I end each test run when the Low Battery warning appears. Luck; Ken |
