Who makes the Kobo?
Who makes the Kobo? I initially heard rumours that it was made by RIM, but when I tried to search the MAC bluetooth address it said it belongs to Netronix. I see in another thread (case for the Kobo) that someone else thinks it is made by Netronix as well (model E600?). When looking on the Netronix web site it looks more like a modified E60820 to me.

I believe the hardware is Netronix.

Somebody dug through the the FCC files and found it, I think. Can't be sure without searching for it. But as I recall, the paperwork did say Netronix.

I think that the Netronix EB600 lokos like it has more features in the software. The product video shows a virtual keyboard for doing a key word search.

The FCC URL is https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/...'NOIKBN416'
Unfortunately, certain items (the schematics and block diagrams), are confidential. And yes, it is Netronix. One thing that is interesting; the external photo's include an AC adapter; the "DVE Switching Adapter" DSA-6G 05 Last edited by PeterT; 05-14-2010 at 08:13 AM. |

Who's going to be the first to solder a headphone jack onto the Kobo board and get the firmware to play music (like the EB600)?

First you have to figure out how to open the case without breaking it.... then you have to find the place where the codec chip might go and solder it on... then you have to write and flash the firmware to play the music...
Or you could buy a Sony or Astak or any of the multitude of readers which already support music... Last edited by pholy; 05-20-2010 at 11:24 PM. Reason: Added alternative suggestion |

Just for interest, I just took my Sony 505 out of its cover ... and discovered it was made in China. Neil
