Using Calibre with my Kindle 2

Hello. I have had my Kindle for over a year (and love it). I just downloaded the calibre application to my computer, in hopes of downloading a book and coverting it to my Kindle. I used the set up wizard and completed the set up (ie- inputing my kindle and gmail info). I then tried to send the one book in my library, the new user book, to my Kindle. I hit the send to device and in the lower left corner it says that it was sent to my Kindle. However, after hitting the sync new items button to my Kindle, the book is not appearing.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you allow that email adress to send to your Kindle in settings at Amazon? The default is that only the adress you use at Amazon is allowed to send to your kindle IIRC.

Have you tried to send a simple text file as attachment to your Kindle from your regular mail (gmail)?
