Calibre/Kindle 2 Question

I've noticed lately that when connecting via USB to my Kindle 2, Calibre is much slower than it had been in recent weeks. (I have just over 300 books on my Kindle.)

Where it had been taking merely seconds to a minute or so to access the contents on the Kindle (before transferring a book), I now notice it may take a few minutes.

On the other hand, my wife's Kindle 2 (approximately 100 books stored) seems to load in under a minute.

Is there anything I can do to help remedy this?

(The Calibre program and my library of 300+ books loads on my XP SP3 system quickly. I am running Calibre 0.6.47 and I have no hacks installed on my Kindle.)

Thanks in advance.

You can disable metadata reading to speed it up. Go to preferences->plugins->device interface and customize the Kindle driver plugin.

Typically if you have PDfs on your Kindle that will slow down metadata reading considerably.

Thanks, Kovid. I'll bet that's exactly the issue.

Recently I loaded a handful of PDF files, one of which is quite large. (Near 100 megs)

Now that I know there's nothing "wrong" I'll just leave it as is until or unless I can't take it anymore.
