I went to get the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They have one book that has all 3 books in one. However a reviewer said you can't changed the font size or something like that. Anyway, I went to get all 3 books, and I found Lord of the Rings volume 1, and volume 2. However the last book, "The Return of the King "was not shown. I went to book.google and looked there as well. Guess what, it was not there either. I called Sony and requested it. They said when and if it is available, they will contact me. How could they not have the Lord of the Rings set?
I was also very surprised to see very poor Christian books available as well. A very popular book called "This present darkness" by Frank Peretti was not available. They had like only 2 Bibles to choose from and both were the NIV version. No New American Standard, or New King James. I hope things improve soon. |

I agree, the Sony store isn't the best. But I think their reader hardware is.
Solution: Buy your books elsewhere (like Amazon) and convert to read them on the Sony. See this thread for more. |

An alternative is to use a site like Inkmesh to search by title or author or both. This will tell you which sites have the ebook, what format they carry and the price.

It's a sad fact of life that the Sony bookstore blows.
It's an equally sad fact of life that they lock everything down with DRM, even public domain works. There are alternatives. You can buy books from elsewhere and de-DRM them. As much as I want the Lord of the Rings myself, I won't do that because I refuse to give money to DRM-restrictive publishers and thereby vote in favor of what they do. You can buy DRM-free books elsewhere (I'm a big fan of Baen Books, though their politics are starting to bother me). There are independent ebookstores, there are authors' consortia, and various other places to buy books. Or, of course, you can tap into the enormous library of DRM-free books available right here, and on Project Gutenberg, Feedbooks, Manybooks, and various other sites. You could always read the Harvard Classics, for instance (you can pick up all 51 volumes, plus the Reading Guide, on MobileRead). Remember that this current idea that copyright should extend long after the author's grandchildren are dead is only a recent idea; there are plenty of wonderful books that predate it. (edit: including many, many works on Christianity) Speaking of the many ways in which Sony sucks, their software is high on that list. Go grab yourself a copy of Calibre (link can be found in the Calibre support forum down the way a bit) and organize your library in ways the Sony Library program could never dream of. |

Thanks for your responses. I think Sony is aware that their book store is very limited which is why they added Google books. I am finding out that many of my favorite books are not in E Pub format yet as they are older books. Newer ones are more available.
I found Booksonboard.com has the last Lord of the Rings book in Epub format, so I will be getting it from them....in the future. I have several books to read first. I actually have not read the Lord of the Rings trilogy in over 8 years. My paper back issues, the pages are yellow and the covers are beat up. So reading on my Daily Reader will be a treat. I am going to start with the Hobbit, and then the 1st two books of the trilogy. I requested Sony to notifiy me when The Return of the King is available. I am hopeful that they will have it on their web site in the next month. The only way the Sony store will improve is if we all call the customer service and advise them of the books we want. Since they would make money on a sale, I think they would be motivated to get the books we request. |

Do a google search for 'ineptepub'. Lots of reading will get you the answers. I've liberated all my epubs and the few pdfs I've received for free.

For B&N epubs look for 'ignobleepub'
If it's the ereader format you will need 'ereader2html' |

We're all sometimes disappointed that our reading interests aren't the same as Sony's. We have this thread to catalog all the other places you can get books. If you find a new place, put it in this thread and I'll consolidate it into the first entry.

All three books
I just checked Kobo, they have all three books in one. I went through the chapters just to make sure. It's $16.48 but as I said that's for all three books. Always go Canadian for quality
