The Book Depository launches an Ebookstore

I've just had a general email from them saying they've launched their ebook store. I think they did have some free ebooks before, but now apparently they have over 340000 to buy. I've not yet had a look at their selection, but that's what I'm off to do now.

Given they joined MR last year, I'm surprised we've not heard anything from them directly about this!

(Disclaimer: I have no link to the company except as a very happy customer of theirs for physical books)

Nate the Great, on his blog site, questions the number of e-book titles they have in there. I'd like to hear them address Nate's query.

I took a quick look... no comment. I noticed they had 10 Arthur C. Clarke e-books, 10 paperbacks, and no Childhood's End.

Had a quick look, checking a couple of UK authors they are very expensive!! in one case twice the price of the paperback which included free delivery from play.com.

Finally managed to get a look at the ebooks, and I have to say I'm very disappointed in their pricing. They still beat Amazon (at least in the UK), on the pbooks I checked; but doing a quick check on some ebooks and even Waterstones have them beaten on price.

(And I have no idea how an ebook can be out of stock, unless they're still negotiating/renegotiating with the publisher. I have seen it elsewhere (on Penguin's own site, I think))

I looked up Alastair Reynolds - and they were listed as 'Out of Stock' - not sure if this is because I can't buy them here, or they just don't have them.

Anyone else?

All Stephen King eBooks show as "out of stock". I've sent them an e-mail to ask why.

What I found odd was that some Terry Pratchett books were "out of stock", some were available.

It's definitively weird : weird "out-of-stock" message of digital items, weird pricing policy...

Anyone else notice bookdepository.co.uk stocking ereaders? The price comes up automatically for Australian dollars for us Aussies, and I tell you, the prices are very very nice. Just an example, a Sony PRS-300 comes in at $248AUS, to buy from an Australian seller (imported and resold) is $465AUS.
