reader wont shut off

Hi all.

I have an old sony 505 and a 600. I have a problem that is very strange with my 505, I can turn it on but it wont shut down. I have tried charging it, re-setting it and plugging it into the computer in an effort to ' kick start' it but nope, nada. I can turn it on but it just will not shut off, the only thing i can do is to let it stay on and run the battery down.

Has anyone come across this problem?

Does that include trying shutdown option in the Settings Menu?

Are you charging from the mains, Crash? This is one of the problems I used to have the problem you describe with my 505 when I was still trying to charge via USB to the computer. Neil

My 505 has just started doing this also. (When I tried to turn it off, it stuck on the "shutting down" screen from the options menu, after I used the correct key sequence to get to shut down)

This is the 2nd time. None of the keys work.

The only thing that worked was a hard reset from the back BUT then it stuck on the starting up screen and the hard reset doesn't even work. HELP HELP HELP PLEASE

Are you using a proper mains charger, tlynne? That solved this problem for me. Never a hitch since. Neil

If all else fails you can reformat the drive and all should be well again.

Reset the device and then immediately connect it to your PC via usb. Your PC should recognize the device. Then simply format the drive using FAT then unplug.

You will have to reload all your books, of course.

I have charged it through the mains. I have tried connecting it to the PC to reset it, I have reset it manually and still nothing. I don't know if it's the switch but it turns on but not off so that doesn't make any sense. It will go on but nothing can get it to shut down.

I admit to being confused.

How do you know you can turn it on with the switch if it won't shutdown?

Does it go into sleep mode (screen blank number buttons inactive)?

On another thread they claimed to have success with a similar problem by formatting internal memory via the menu item (not via Windows) under advanced settings. This will clear out your books though. Give it a try.
