Ok hate me... Kindle or Nook?

I have a Sony PRS-300 which is great and very versatile in the files it accepts and also a very readable screen. I am still in the return period to take it back if I wish. I have yet to pay for a book... Several were given to me and others aquired. I have about 150 or so... I keep looking thinking I want a wireless version of an ereader for periodicals and news papers. It appears the Nook or the Kindle are hot on this topic for these. I know there is a PRS-900, but it is almost as much as the new iPad. Whether I chose to keep the PRS-300 (which is cool) or take it back, which way should I go if I get a wireless one. Ok, this may be a big push to one side, but I spend a lot of time in Europe (live in the USA). Anyone have one have want to sell? I could use some help! Thank in advance.

WEll, you were in the kindle section... you might want us to move this to the "Which should I but section"...

But, I think you would be ok with either one. But, I would go with the Kindle over the Nook. (Well, I did). Then again, the Nook wasn't around when I bought my Kindle in May 2008... and I paid $350 for it.

If you want to read library books thought... and don't want to have to figure out how to remove DRM you might prefer the nook.

Sorry, I didn't know there was such a section. Is it hard to remove DRM off of a Kindle? Are the Nook and Kindle that similar? Thanks for not moving me... I'd never find it.

from a Kindle owner who almost got swiggered by the nook, this is what you need to know (the truth behind the lures);

wireless-afaik this is only in the store right now, due to be expanded later. Kindle of course has whispernet which will work anywhere in the US with their pretty comprehensive coverage, and now the K2 is indeed an international device. the wireless can work in many countries, you need to check at Amazon to see where it does work

lending-big nook hook... truth is one time, one person for 14 days EVER. once that book cherry is popped, no putting it back in the can.

library-I have no idea what the deal with nook is. many books can be read by the Kindle after running through calibre

the bottom flash gee whiz bang it's in color!!!! wheeee! on the nook-yeah whoopdeedo. it's just the book covers and it uses extra battery when on. as far as that almost as useless as tits on a boarhog keyboard on the kindle... well sometimes you do get a wild hair and go online just 'cuz, or maybe to order a book! all the rest of the time you use it as an area to rest your thumb and wonder how all the other devices deal with the thumb prints on the bottom third of the screen.

that's all I got for now

You might want to consider the customer service too. Amazon goes out of it's way to help it's customers, while you will probably be on the phone with B&N customers service for hours, if you can even get through. Two completely different companies in that regard.

And then there's the squirrelly software on the Nook. You have to be very careful where you touch that pretty little screen at the bottom, because if you touch it in wrong spot you get flung back to the first page of the book you're reading...with no "Go To Page" function to get you back to the page you were reading. This has happened to me on every book I've read on it, and depending how far I was into each book and whether the book had chapter numbers (not all of them do) it has taken me as much as 20 minutes to get back to where I was when the Nook flaked out. Life is too short and my books are too long to waste time with a buggy reader, so I gave up last Friday and bought the Sony 300 and moved all my Kobo ePub books to it. I love my Sony, my Kindle and my iTouch, but the Nook...not so much. It sure is pretty, though. Maybe I should frame it instead of chucking it into my Box of Misfit Electronics with the old cell phones and MP3 players.

I will try to provide a more objective analysis. I've used both and like both. I prefer the nook's screen and the Kindle's bookstore.

Actually, the new software for the nook has fixed most every issue with the device. It works quite well. The wireless is either 3G (works anywhere in the US) or Wi-Fi (home network or other) or in a Barnes and Noble store.

If you go to a store, you do get some special offers (discounts, some free books, a plethora of essays). Soon you'll be able to read for an hour (I think this time is correct) any ebook.

The Kindle is also a nice device and right now it gets better battery life. The Nook's battery life will be addressed in the next firmware rev, which is expected this month. Library books (Epub) are easily loaded onto the nook. Library books (Mobi) are easily loaded onto the Kindle.

B&N's customer service has greatly improved since the premature launch of the nook. It's a night and day experience with B&N when you compare December to March.

Maybe the best thing you can do is visit the Amazon or B&N Nook forums on their websites (not here) for each device and support, and see what people are saying.

One bonus to the Kindle is that you can buy it an return it in 30 days for a refund if you don't like it. I'm not sure if the nook allows it.

So, buy one, give it a test drive... if you don't like it, you can return it and get a nook. You are only out the $ to ship it back. You can "buy" free books (or samples) to try it so they won't cost you anything.

KINDLE KITTEN,

I LIKE YOUR STYLE! No BS and good points. Tits on a boar hog is one of my favorite sayings (being from the South). Thanks to everyone who helped. It seems a biased thing with these ebook readers. Something to be said about wifi or folks wouldn't be buying them. The Sony PRS-300 is cool, I just wish it had wireless it would be perfect. I passed on the PRS-600 because of the glare on the screen. Confirmed problem and I don't do touch very well. I got my 300 at such a deal, I may keep it after all and add another. Stupid? Maybe. I travel an S-Load! Thanks Guys and Gals! Kindle Kitten... Thanks for the cool answer!
