Cool Answers From Aluratek re .LIT & SDHC

I had some questions about my Libre Pro, so I wrote to the Help Desk at Aluratek. I thought that some of you might be interested in the responses.

Is there any chance that the .LIT format will be added to the Libre? I have a lot of books in that format and would like to be able to just add them, without having to manually convert all of them into one of the Libre's current acceptable formats. Inclusion of the .LIT format would really cover all the main format basis and make the Libre even more useful.

Quote:
The .LIT format is a DRM-restricted ebook format that is proprietary and limited to the Microsoft Reader program. There currently are no plans to add .LIT as a supported format

Also, I notice that when I convert books to the .EPUB format, I seem to lose the page turning functionality of the directional buttons on the lower right side of the reader. I've seen this problem mentioned by others in ebook forums and was wondering if there was going to be an update to fix this problem - or if there is something we should do when converting the books to that format to retain that functionality.

Quote:
Whenever an ebook is converted from one format to another there is always the risk of a feature that was encoded on the original not be translated to the new format. What was the original ebook format? Have you tried using the page turning slider on the left side of the LIBRE or the page turning buttons on the bottom left corner of the LIBRE?

Third and final question. Does an SDHC card open files faster on the Libre than a regular SD card?

Quote:
You might notice slight difference in opening files using an SDHC card when compared to an SD card. However, the LIBRE's processor is the major factor in accessing data on an SD or SDHC card. The SD or SDHC Speed Class Ratings actually refer to how fast you can write to the cards, not accessing the cards. So the only real advantage an SDHC card has over the SD card when using it on your LIBRE is that the SDHC card offers greater memory capacity.

I can't get the directional buttons to turn pages on ANY of my ePub books, whether converted or not. Can anyone use these buttons on their Libre to turn ePub pages?

Regarding ePUB... the page turns don't work because it uses ADE. Other formats use FBReader.

Obviously they don't know that Aztak has managed to put the .LIT format on their readers.

You can Google the actual figures for the different class ratings of the SD cards,
but the above is accurate. Class 2 cards are plenty fast enough for an eReader.
I use class 6 cards for playback of AVC/H264 HD Video, on my Netbook and have
seen no advantage using those cards for ebooks on my JBL - over - normal speed
SD cards.

Luck;
Ken

I'm using the SD card that came with the Libre. I'm not sure of its speed, but I tried placing a 5Mb ePubs on both the SD card and in internal memory and I could not see any difference in speed. So I would say this statement is true. The reader will take longer to format a large book than it will to open its file, so buying a class 4 or 6 would be overkill.

The second question is no biggie as there are two other ways to turn pages: The page buttons and the slider on the left side, both of which work fine for ePubs. I'm not sure why they included the other buttons for page turns as that seems almost like NASA with triple redundancy. ;-)
