Brand new Sony prs 600 not charging

Help! I have a brand new sony prs 600 and it does not seem to be charging. I have connected it to my computer with several different usb cables (including the one that was included with it) and it does not seem to be charging. I had it connected and it shows usb on the screen and device locked on the bottom but after several hours when i disconnect it, it has not gained any charge. I was able to access the device with the usb cable and add books when i first got it 2 days ago but i have never been able to gain any more charge than what came with it out of the box. It has now been a brick for most of 2 days when unplugged from the usb. Anybody have any ideas?

Other threads seem to suggest that if the reader is so far discharged it needs to be charged via a wall charger (e.g. a PSP charger). But since yours is a brand new set, I don't see how it got discharged so bad. So if you have a PSP charger you could try that.

If your computer went into "sleep mode", the reader won't charge and the battery might actually get drained. A deep charge with a Sony AC adapter or a less expensive PSP charger usually brings it back to life.

I had once this problem and it was due to the usb port in the front of the computer. I tried with the one in the back and it worked.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried a wall charger from my friends reader and got no results so i just finally went and exchanged it for another and the new one is working just fine. Now to add all my books

Glad you sorted out the problem and did not wait too long. Wish you a happier experience with the reader now that it charges.

This problem seems to be "common". We had it on both our PRS-600 readers when new, that is although appearing to charge, the battery indicator went from full to empty in a couple of hours use. However did the full reset procedure and not been an issue since. We always use the Sony wall charger now.
