Weakest Link

I've noticed over the past couple of days that when I try to include a link in an MR post, the URL is doubled up. If I then try to edit it down, the link isn't live (as in my signature below). Any advice, chaps? Thanks. Neil

what do you mean by it is not live? you mean it is not clickable? because i can actually click the link in your signature.

The link is there, but were you trying to make it look like the below?

Thanks Carol and Dreams. Yup, I eventually got the link in my sig line clickable. How did you do what you did, Dreams? Can't ask my tech partner because he's nine hours behind my time zone and he's gone to bed. Happy weekend. Neil

I'll see if I can explain or show it.

First I type the sentence I want...

Visit the BeWrite Books bookstore at smashwords.com.

Then I highlight the words where I want to put the link. (Right click and pass over the words to be highlighted)-- I couldn't get the highlight to stay on while I did a screen shot.

1) I click on the "insert link" icon and add the link.

Then I click on a color (I usually pick blue-- drop down menu next to the "A")

2) Then I click on U

3) Then I click on B to make it more visible.

Also, yes, it shows 2 links when you just add a link normally.. The highlighted part is another way in which you can type in the words to be over the link.

I hope that was understandable.. It's 2:30 AM and I'm tired... one of those nights where your eyes cross, and your brain muddles, but you can't sleep...

You might need to change it again, as it appears to have a random http:// before the [ url ] tag

Am (can I call you Am, ShortNCuddlyAm?) is right. I suppose your signature looks like this:

All you need to do is delete the red parts, then it should work. If in doubt: cite dreams's entry and then copy->paste her link into your signature

P.S.: I have changed the opening [s to (s, so you can see the code instead of the effect.

I wish you folks weren't so far away so that I could invite you round for a celebratory drink or three. Thanks for helping me sort this out.

Hope one or two of you will take advantage of that offer, by the way. If you can afford a buck or two, that would be great. But you may well have contributed to the disaster fund in some other way, so there's no reason at all why you shouldn't call by and download one, some or all of those twenty-five titles.

Iʻve opened this thread probably 4 times thus far, and gotten lost each time (aka confused, befuddled). I keep expecting it to be about "you ARE the weakest link!" (anyone remember that short-lived game show?)

When I see the thread title, it reminds me of that show too! Hasn't been on for ages. It was always so humiliating for the one that had to leave.

I've found, Grace -- especially at really busy sites like MR where there are new posts every few seconds -- that it helps to give some thought the headline you use for a new thread to attract visits. I'm sure many members with no time to waste will skip over bland titles that read simply 'Hi' or 'Help'. Cheers. Neil
