IREX 800ds designer must have no brain

fill the page height when reading pdf in landscape mode? How could they come out with this idea? I planned to buy one before, now have to get rid of this stupid idea. Frankly, this will deter many potential buyers. In a competing market as the USA, how can they do this?

That's because it doesn't zoom (yet). If you tell it to reflow instead of maintain the original size, then it will fit the landscape window.

Reflowing a pdf file in Dr800 changes table and images' position. It is not readable any more. bad.
If new firmware will come soon, I will keep it, or I have to return it.
looks like that Kindle DX is the best choice for pdf so far.

It is not related to zoom, just like Kindle DX. Kindle DX does not zoom, but it fills the page width rather than height. For IREX 800SG, if you do not reflow the pdf, landscape mode is just a joke (because of filling the height). You are forced to use portrait mode only.

I agree. The Sony 900 also fills the page width in landscape mode (has nothing to do with zoom). Making it appear as if the font size has been increased. I don't know why this was overlooked. Competing devices offer it. Perhaps this will come in an update to those who want to hold on to it.

Could just be a "fit to height" instead of "fit to width" bug in the PDF viewer implementation. I haven't heard anything from iRex commenting on it yet.

The irex manager may never use dr800 to read PDF at all. Looks like it does not crop white margin in pdf files original font. It crops margin only after messing it up (reflow it).
NO margin cropping and height fitting landscape mode make it not a good pdf reader.
I am tired of splitting, cropping and merging files to fit a reader.

What it has now is most likely "fit to screen", and I agree that what is needed is "fit to width". Even better would be fit to width with autocropping of margins.

Since the technical staff at iRex generally do have brains, this is probably due to fit to width being handled by "zoom" and the fact that it was missing got overlooked when the bean counters yanked PDF zoom.

Just when I finished the last couple of posts I'm almost glad that the reader cannot be found in local stores around here. I would probably have been fooled by the display size and would have gone for it. As it was not around, I decided to get the Sony 600 just because of the different pdf features like zoom and reflow. I find the inability of that on any new reader a real tradeoff. This is certainly something I would consider befor buying the next one in about a year or two (maybe earlier, depending on what's still coming).

A customer wants to complain about the food, so he asks the waitress “where is the manager?” “The manager is not available during dinner time, he usually has his dinner at the cross street restaurant.”

I'm sure they did, but they were probably looking more closely at the new features, like reflow, which wouldn't have shown this problem.

Hopefully it's just a simple fix of "fit to width" and the problem goes away.

BeBook Neo has it (zoom), like iRex iLiad did have 2 years ago already. Marking any area with stylus and exploding to full screen. Plus: Fit to width, fit to height, fit to page, ...
I'm sure iRex 800 will incorporate it. But I was quite surprised, not finding this iRex specific feature (had been unique on iLiad).

my dr800's flipbar backward ( from right to left) does not work well.
flipbar forward (from left to right)always works great, but backward does not work at most of time, for exmple, I want to read previous page, flipbar from right to left does not turn page , even I try more then 10 times. Occasionally, it works, then it will keep working good, but after a while, it stop to work.
stylus touch always works great.
If this a hardware problem or a software bug?
