Will Apple block kindle/stanza ect. from iPad

We know already that the iPad will run iPhone/iTouch apps. We also know that Apple frequently rejects apps that compete with Apple/Carrier apps -- as with Google Voice.

I'm wondering if Apple will allow the Kindle app, Stanza, B&N etc. to run on the iPad to keep competition away from it's iBookstore.

If they do -- that would be a MAJOR turnoff to me.

I really don't think they will. But of course, no one knows..... In about 5-6 weeks we will know.

One of the main reasons I want an iPad is so I can have both my Kindle and Nook books on one device. Also being able to have three book stores to choose from, both from a price and titles stand point.

I just wish it had an SD card slot. Right now my iPod has 59GB on it.

That would, obviously, be a deal-killer for the majority of us. Including me.

I don't think they will though. We have no hard info on it though, other than that Kobo and Amazon have started working on apps for it.

Given that iBooks is a downloadable app - not part of the O/S, it would seem to be unlikely that they would ban the existing apps.

Looks like this isn't a worry, per this post by ruddell in the Kindle forum here.

I also use Comic Zeal to get my Comic CBR files onto my Touch and I'm very interested in the Ipad for a larger comics reader, so I hope the apps work and that they come out with dedicated Ipad versions.

If it doesn't duplicate/compete with 'core functionality', or deliver 'family un-friendly' content, should be ok. That seems to be mostly what Apple cares about policing, though these guidelines seem to be a little imprecise...

It wouldn't make much sense for them to have blocked such apps, allowing them means that keen readers wouldn't be giving up their existing books if they got an ipad even if they bought their new ones from apple's own store.

That's definitely something that would make me more interested in the ipad or another tablet, the form factor seems ideal for comics.

Yep, and Apple makes most of their money from hardware sales rather than iTunes, so better to have all those apps on their to get more people to buy iPads, vs. worrying about only having their iBook store which likely won't be a big money maker anyway.

Amazon will launch a Kindle app to compete with iBooks. I saw the article yesterday.

Will Apple block kindle/stanza ect. from iPad?

No, Apple wants to get an ipad in everyones homes. They will open the same Apps that are on the iphone as long as they work properly and they get their 30% cut. Apple is a hardware company, the ebooks is just a value-added service like iTunes is to the ipod.
