Red face Please help with new amazon kindle 2

Hey i am new to the kindle scene and i need some help and maybe you can shed some light i am willing to pay for your help and expertise as i see you have a lot of knowledge in this, i have a kindle that was brand new that was given to me and the registration is not working i have no bars on my reception
although i am in a kindle area here in Orlando, Florida. I called in customer support and they told me that my serial No: B003A0A0944382A1 was flagged
as lost or stolen, the question i have is there anyway to activate this anyway or bypass the registration and get it to work that i can still get online
and use the service with amazon ? I really need your help and maybe you can tell me what i need to do or forward me to the people that might be able
to assist me in this situation, any help is greatly and deeply appreciated. Let me know as well as i am willing to pay to fix this ? This is a private matter
between me and you by the way so thanks.

Thanks,

Dre.

Not very private to post the same question on three different public areas.

Anyway, as I think someone else already answered. The solution is to provide Amazon with a proof that you got the device legally, ie a receipt. They will then let you use the device.

The fact that you may have bought it legitimately is irrelevant. If you buy stolen property, even in good faith, it is still stolen property, and belongs to the original owner, not to you. (This happens all the time when people buy cars which turn out to be stolen - they lose the car AND their money.)

It's regrettable that you should have been conned into buying a stolen Kindle, but the only honest thing to do is to talk to Amazon and arrange to return it to its legal owner.

No, there is no way. They have flagged the Kindle serial as lost or stolen.

There were some folks who inadvertently "purchased" stolen Kindles on eBay. It took some time but Amazon eventually activated their Kindles because they were "purchased" in good faith (and they helped Amazon track down the seller of the stolen Kindles). Since the Kindle was "given" to you and not "purchased in good faith", you are not out any money so Amazon does not need to accommodate you.

You have a couple of choices that I can think of:

1) Keep the stolen/lost Kindle and use it as a stand alone non-DRM mobi and PDF ebook reader without access to any wireless features including the Amazon Kindle store or

2) Buy a new or refurbished Kindle and return the one you were given to the person who gave it to you.

In this case there really is no "free lunch" (or nothing beyond a free salad).

I can only agree to what Daffy and HarryT said.

Unfortunately, you are a victim here. May we ask where you bought the kindle? That might help others stay away from an unscrupulous vendor.

By the way, you posted publicly on a world wide forum.

Literally people all over the world read what you wrote.

That depends on the country and the laws. Maybe you just meant that this hold in the US. Until recently in Sweden it was the case that if you bought something in good faith it was your to keep and the original owner had to get compensation from the seller. I assume other countries can have similar laws.

I agree with what the others have said. If it was given to you then you are not out of pocket at all. So you have not lost anything and have learnt a very valuable lesson that the person who gave it to you is not the type of friend you need.

The honest thing to do would be to tell Amazon the "friends" name. I would not be able to enjoy the unit knowing it was stolen - I dont know about you.

Natalie.

It could have been stolen in transit. When you order a Kindle, you receive the serial number, which is registered to the account of the purchaser, before the actual Kindle is received. So, it could in fact, have been stolen from someone.

That is disingenuous. Seals can be replaced.
If you are convinced that the device is not stolen then talk to Amazon. Send a lawyer's letter. Consult consumer advice agencies.

On the other hand, I understand that you have PM'd members offering financial incentives for help. This is beginning to look like a scam on your part.
I hope that nobody is reckess enough to part with any financial details to this person.

In Australia it isnt an offence to innocently buy stolen property, but if detected you will have it removed and lose your money. If you knew it was stolen, whether purchased or received as a gift, it is an offence.

You are lucky you aren't out any $$. The kindle is definately worth the price - you can get a refurbished model for $40 less.

In the UK, the buyer loses the property, even if the purchase was made in good faith. It happens a lot, especially with cars.

Something about this particular transaction doesn't smell right. IMO an above-board buyer wouldn't offer cash under the table to a stranger to try to work around the manufacturer who advises that the device is on their black list. A buyer who was fleeced would head straight back to the seller - at least, at the places I do business... The OP's actions here on the board suggest that they KNEW it was stolen. I'm just sayin'...
