History of Mobileread forums

I'm new to this ereader & ebook world. I found this site via a Google search while searching for information on ereaders. In the very short time I have been here I have found a wealth of information and received helpful replies to questions. I have not found any other site that has anywhere near as much information.

While searching for information concerning finding ebooks I found a link that took me to a thread that started back in 2005. In that thread there were members that started on Mobileread as far back as 2002. That made me curious of how long this site has been in existence and who started it. I searched for a history of the site but could not find anything. So can someone fill me in? Thanks.

Wait, wrong thread.

The founder and still owner of MobileRead is Alexander Turcic. When it started I'm not sure, but he will probably be along any time now to enlighten us.

I remember when mobileread was still turcic.com

I have to say, it has come a long, long way since then. I've only started browsing the forums again lately, and what Alexander and the current batch of editors have done (and are doing) is nothing short of amazing.

Thanks for the Wiki link, DesertGrandma. The entry is pretty sketchy, though. I wonder if an MR member of some long standing (or Alex himself) might feel the urge to update and expand on the info there. This is one heck of a valuable and fascinating site and its history is important, I think. Cheers. Neil

I would like some more data as well. I wrote the wiki entry just by poking around. Recently I have been collecting information on the wiki itself. I have posted a bit of it in the wiki status page but I am planning a bigger spread on April 10th, the 4th anniversary of the wiki. It will likely be run in the milestone thread. Most of my data has come from an archive site and history records of the various pages.

Its my understanding that Alex has been really busy with his 'real' work..........you know.......that job that pays the bills.

I'm sure once things calm down he'll help 'flesh it out'.....

Well, his job seems to have gone away so he is even busier finding another way to pay his bills.
