Best reader for a note taker?

I'm looking for an e-reader for my sister and I was wondering which one would be best?

She likes taking lots of notes so this is a must. She's looked at the Sony Touch and didn't think there was enough room in the "margins" of the reader to fit all she would write. She wants something that would allow her to put foot notes or have a pop up window to put in notes.

So far I only know of the Sony Touch, the Nook, and the Kindle but I don't know exactly how you can put in notes for each one.

Any other info would be great! Thanks!

Of course it comes down to personal preference but I by far and away prefer taking notes on a Kindle with the physical keyboard than using the stylus on the Sony 600. Although other people will no doubt prefer using the stylus on the touchscreen. I just dislike the way the stylus seems to scratch across the screen rather than glide and as I have big writing, I can't fit much across the screen if I'm writing.

The keys on the Kindle 2 are small but well-placed in the Qwerty layout. I have small hands and I can type a lot quicker than I text that's for sure.

If it's at all possible I would recommend trying at least one of the devices out.

Personally I prefer the "handwriting" of the PRS-600 to the keyboard of the Kindle, because it allows me to make any annotations I want - underlining words, circling them, etc. The Sony also allows you to make "typewritten" annotations using a "soft keyboard" on the screen.

You don't need large margins to write your notes in (and I don't think you will find a lot of ebooks with very large margins). In the sony touch you can highlight a word or passage and then add your handwritten or typed notes in a pop up window. I never took notes on paper books, but I use the feature all the time now.
Of course you can also write or draw directly on the page too, and choose to not display notes when you feel they get in the way.

Consider checking out the enTourage eDGe if annotation is more important than size.

The ee is a dual screen, and more the size/weight of a netbook, but it has pen input for annotating as well as a note taking "journal" (like Tablet PCs) program for when you want to take notes on a separate blank "piece of paper."
