Cleaning the display
Ok, so this is just a question on cleaning the display of the touch.
I love the touch operation, but I'm the kind of guy who says "nooo, don't touch the screen" when someone wants to point out something on my monitor at work, because I don't like the fingerprints. Ok, it's not so bad on the 600 as you usually swipe instead of tap. But I just use a papertowel to clean the touch screen. Well, this always leaves some residues on the screen. Does anybody have a good way to clean the touch screen? |

Standard advice is to use a "microfibre" cleaning cloth - the kind that's sold to clean eyeglasses and camera lenses. Works beautifully, and doesn't leave any deposits.

Also my computer monitor screens are a soft plastic, and I am always afraid of damaging them. The PRS-600 feels more like glass, and my fingernail swipes have not marked it at all. When I do clean mine I will probably try a cotton ball with distilled water. Microfibre would be great too.

Thanks for the infos. I'll try the microfiber cloth first. I think I should have one right in the kitchen.

From the kitchen - we better add use a new microfibre - not one that has been in contact with kitchen surfaces or cars...

+1 for microfiber. If something doesn't wiper right off, wet a corner of the cloth with a LITTLE plain water. Just moist. So far that gets off the most stubborn goo (food-related, lol).

While others may very well disagree with this, but I use Windex. It's good enough for my plastic lenses (my glasses) then I finish up with a micro-cloth; I always get one when I get new glasses.

Windex (the good one) has ammonia in it. If the Sony is glass, like it seems to be, Windex may work fine. If you use it on a soft plastic display you may wind up frosting it. But then some say the Touch is already frosted.
I will used distilled water until I find something that won't come off. Robert |

The top layer on a Sony Touch is not glass. That's the flexible plastic touch layer. I use Stoner's Invisible Glass on a microfiber rag, but not the kind used for cleaning glasses. An example can be seen here. Stoner's is available at Wal-Mart and Lowe's. It has no dye or soap, so no streaking, and it's not harsh at all. Matter of fact, it's reccomended for tinted windows. Use it once, and you'll be using it on all of your various screens, windows, mirrors, etc...

Dry paper tissues are quite abrasive and should be never used for optics made out of plastic.
Microfiber is the way to go. I use a small cloth that you get with your glasses or sunglasses. |

I guess I just go with the microfiber, and if necessary, dampen it a little.
By the way, I won't use the microfiber that I just used to clean dishes or wiped of stuff from my car. But once the microfiber is washed, my wife puts them back into the kitchen ;-) After washing, they look and feel like new. I've used them before on my glasses and I can still see through. Have a great week. |

I use those little packaged screen wipes I use for my laptop. I have no idea where to buy them. I steal them from work.
