100 character export limitation

Ok, from reading some threads, it seems that the 600 had a "limitation" that would not allow for more than 100 or 300 characters of highlighted/notated print to be exported or printed.

I'm not familiar with the 600, but since the 900 has the SD slot-could you have all your pdfs on the SD card, open them on the reader, make the highlights in the pdf, save it back to the SD card (maybe that is the default-it saves to where you got it from) and then put the SD card in the computer and print the document with the changes, or print the changes?

I'm not sure how the "save" or "export" features work on the 900.

I was all set to get a 900, but then after reading about this limitation, I"m having second thoughts. I, like many others, want to use it for research, so this limitation will really hurt.

I called sony today to voice my displeasure about this. They said of course it is for copyright laws, but I countered with "for research you cite the journal, etc anyway, so that shouldn't matter" The rep told me I was the first one to complain about this...lol.

Anyway, just looking for thoughts on the SD card-if that might be a possible fix for the 100 character stuff.

Thanks

The character limit discussed is on the rtf that sony will automatically make if you tell it to export the notes from the pdf--not on any ability to view your highlights, or print them. If you make any annotations (including not just highlights, but also physically writing on the page), you can view them on your computer using the sony software when you attach your reader. From there you can easily print physical copies containing your notes (I've actually only done this once, and it was with physical writing by me on the page, rather than highlights, but it worked quite simply), if you want to store them with other physical work.

I agree that it would be nice if Sony could automatically export highlights for easy quotation in papers, however I've found that highlighting a pdf, viewing it in the reader and c/p'ing any text I want to quote works well, as the software will quickly take you to the highlighted pages of your pdf so you can see the material you'd planned on quoting.
