DRM Question
I'm anxously awaiting my new Pocket Reader. I ordered today after thoroughly reading this board and checking them out locally. The Kindle I rec'd last week will be returned. Very nice product. However, it is a bit larger than anticipated. Yes, I was aware of the dimensions, but it's hard to visualize until you have it in your hands. I have no use for the keyboard and it takes up much space. Plus I didn't need all the bells and whistles for an entry reader. The only feature I would love to have had on the Pocket Reader would have been a dictionary.
I am new to these readers and have a few questions about DRM: 1. How do you know if an ebook you are purchasing includes DRM? 2. If a title includes DRM from one seller, does that mean all sellers of the same title include DRM? Thanks |

In most cases currently you'll find that they are DRM'd unless specified otherwise. One thing to watch out for that got me is whether it is Adobe PDF or Adobe EPUB DRM. The Sony Reader will handle both, but most PDF's will be difficult on the 5" reader.
Generally if it is DRM'd it will be everywhere. |

The Sony will not be able to read eBooks from Amazon or B&N natively. Their DRM's are for their individual products.

I may be mistaken, but i believe if you pay for the book, that book HAS to have DRM. Otherwise one person buys the book and he can share it with anyone. That's not good for the business lol. Also, if you have to create an account and sign in most likely the books will be DRM'd.
About your other question, I do believe all sellers include DRM for one particular book, because they make deals with the editorial houses so I would say yes, the same title will be DRM'd everywhere |

You are mixing two concepts - paying for books and DRM. You can get free books with DRM (think library) and many books you pay cash for have no DRM. I for one will never buy a book with DRM, and I bought a very next reference EBook from O'Reilly that has no DRM.
