PRS-600 ebook Store

Hi All
Is it possible to remove the ebook Store from my PRS-600 as I belive it is causing me problems when up loading purchased ebooks.

Hi Tony,

Can you describe the problem you are having when uploading books? I don't think the Sony software resides on the reader itself so it can't be removed. Are you asking about alternative ways of uploading purchased book to the device?

I am trying to transfer new purchased ebooks and cannot transfer them to the Reader. The Reader says it is Authorized for Adobe DRM protected content but when I try to transfer the books to the Reader it states that the Reader must be Authorized for Adobe DRM. I then re Authorize it and get the following message "Failed to Authorize this computer to the Ebook Store. (-470)"

Are you in the UK or the US? Did you try closing and reopening the software?

Do you have adobe digital editons (ADE) installed and is it authorized? If so, I would try to move the books to ADE and from there try to move the books into the reader. If it's not authorized stop there and let us know since it's a bit fuzzy about how to get ADE authorized with Sony.

I'm guessing you bought the books through Sony? It's odd that it says your computer is not authorized since I think it won't even let you buy a book if it wasn't. I know it's a bit confusing but I believe there are three authorizations that need to take place if you are trying to purchase books through Sony.

1) The computer with the sony store
2) The computer with Adobe
3) The reader with the same Sony and Adobe accounts as the authorized computer.

After you do 1 and 2, I think 3 should happen automatically (with a confirmation) once you plug the reader into the computer and launch the Sony software and log into your Sony account.

If that doesn't work, the first thing I would do is check what devices are authorized to your sony account by opening up the Sony software and log into your account. There should be an account option and it'll show you exactly what's authorized to your account. Should show the computers and readers. If everything looks good there, the problem might be with ADE.

Unless someone has a better suggestion.

I downloaded 4 books from Sony this morning with no problem. I also opened ADE with no problem. Closed them and went about other things. Decided to put my new books on my 900. Both Reader and ADE kept telling me I needed to authorize. I closed and opened them several more times, rebooted 2 or 3 times all to no avail. I then restored Vista to yesterday's restore point and everything works as it should now. I wonder if the Sony Store got cobbled up?

Have now discussed the problem with Sony and they asked me to send the unit back for checking. Within 12 hours of receiving the unit they declared it had a software problem and are replacing the whole unit free of charge.

Just curious, did you try a firmware update to force, basically, a new operating system install? Not that it matters now, just mere curiosity and might help those with problems in the future.
