Sony Reader PRS-505 Teething Problems

Hi there

I recently received this device as a gift. It looks great, but now I want to start reading on it. I downloaded all of the free stuff that comes with it, as well as some books from this site (thanks), and then I bought some ebooks online.

However, I get the message that:

"This ebook cannot be transferred because the Reader is authorized to another user".

Now, I've read through the relevant threads that I could find, and I believe my problem is compounded - not being from the US, the Reader Library doesn't offer me access to the Sony store.

In the reader, it tells me to go to the store and follow instructions. In the store, it tells me to use the reader and follow instructions. (??)

So even if I ask my benefactor to deregister (and I'd like to be able to post him the link to that), what do I do then?

This is based on my limited knowledge,,,

The party that gave you the device does not need to do anything.

There is a key-stroke combination you can enter to Adobe ADE to deregister your device. I suspect doing a full reset through the device setup menu will work also. The next time you connect it will step you through registering.

To register you will need an Adobe issued ID - get that first.

The Adobe installer has a setup assistant that will get you an ID.

I formatted my reader, started again, and, although it still gives me that error message, it has allowed me to read the book.

Strange, but I'm no longer so desperate.
