Question about dictionary lookup

Hi everybody! My first post...

I have a little question. I'm going to enter the ereaders world, buying a kindle 2, but I have still one doubt that previous posts didn't clarify at all.
It's about the dictionary lookup function (one of the main reason I really would like to buy an e-reader, at the moment): Does it work on every supported format? I suppose not for pdf, but if I convert something from pdf in some other format?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Ludovico

If it's text, and not an image, the dictionary should work. It's the New Oxford American English, quite an attractive dictionary. You can also punt over to wikipedia if that's not enough.

I do hope you're not serious, however, that the primary reason to get a stand-alone e-reader is the dictionary lookup function. The Kindle 2 actually provides a very pleasurable, and cost-effective, reading experience.

But, the dictionary function is just superb. It truly enhances the reading experience, especially as done on the Kindle. It is a very smart interface, and it is apparent that whoever designed it reads. This is one thing about Nook that is not very user-friendly.

Thank you! Well, not just for the dictionary, but I still like paper, and I don't think that I'm going to replace ALL my reading experience with the kindle. But who knows...

Well, at the moment I'd like also to enhance my dictionary (I'm from Italy, and I've seen there aren't so much Italian titles..), and this function would be great!

I'll post my impression in this fantastic forum when I'll get the device...
