Cory Doctorow, "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom"
Cory Doctorow has released his first novel, "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom", as a free download under a Creative Commons license. The book is hard to classify... It's sort of what might happen if Neal Stephenson, Daniel Keys Moran, and a Walt Disney World travel guide writer were all sitting around a table in Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom riffing on "cyberpunk" themes and the Haunted Mansion.

There's a PDB for iSilo, a PDB for Mobipocket, and an HTML link for just about anything else.

You *CAN* walk into your local major bookstore and buy this book off the shelf and if you like the book I strongly encourage you to do so and then send really nice email to Cory Doctorow and the good people at Tor Books telling them you read the eBook and then ran right out and bought the physical book as well. Let them know that being able to download the full copy for free won't decrease their sales it will increase them!

Famous is a strange word... outside literary circles and New York City I am not certain E.L. Doctorow is all that famous in the popular sense of the word. Mainstream exposure to E.L. Doctorow comes primarily from the movies made from a few of his novels... most notably "Ragtime" and "Billy Bathgate"
