Authorising Sony Reader

I wonder if someone can please help me - I am in utter despair. This is the first time I have posted something, but I am having real problems with my Sony Reader - I am not very technical. My husband purchased a PRS600 for my birthday and eventually I downloaded a book, only to have page protected appear. I tried everything to get this to work even spent 3 hours synching the reader and trying to copy the book across again.
I took the reader back to the shop and they kindly exchanged it for another one. I am now having problems authorising this reader. I have tried going to the sony site and deleting the registered products and then re-registering, but I still can't get the thing to work - please can someone help me (in easy speak :-)) as I am in tears with sheer frustration.

Welcome cj_horseygirl, and sorry you're having problems.
It sounds like you hadn't authorized your reader the first time around either. Did you install the sony software? If you plug in your reader, it's supposed to guide you through authorization.

Hi there OMK3 - Thanks for replying. Yes I authorised the reader the first time round, as when I went to About in Settings it said it was authorised. Now when I plug the replacement reader in, I don't get taken through any set-up options. I've tried looking through the user manual but it's not particularly helpful.

It's strange that you should get the page protected error if it was authorized. Does your new reader say it's not authorized in about/settings? I authorized mine through Adobe Digital Editions so I don't really know how the sony software authorization works, but the result is the same. If you have Adobe Digital Editions you could open it and plug in your reader, and see if it recognizes it or asks for authorization. Have you tried sony support?

Hi there again - yes I have Adobe Digital Editions and tried having it open whilst being plugged in - still no joy. The synching process also took over 40 minutes and it didn't transfer any of the books at the end of it. I lost all faith and ended up taking it back to the Sony shop. I have an iMac and don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the shop were really kind and gave me my money back. Now I have to sit at my iMac to read my books! Thanks very much for your suggestions though, I know where to come if I venture into buying another reader at some point. :-)

Hello cj_horseygirl (I hope you have a nice real name),
Activating your Sony Reader with Sony’s software and later installing Adobe’s software can result in a nightmare where your books bought with Adobe’s DRM will not read on your Sony.
