Problems buying books with new firmware Epub

I used waterstones to buy two books one works fine on the Cybook but the second Rocket men just makes the Cybook restart and go back to the previous folder I was in.when I go to the folder the book is in . Or if I leave it out of a folder the Cybook restarts and goes back to the previous folder. The book does work on the Sony 505 which is good. Looks like I still need two readers.

The one time i saw the opus do that, it was with faulty ePub. Since the sony reads it, the opus should have no problem either. Unless the sony is somewhat more leniant.
Try deleting book and external files, and adding it again.

I have deleted it and have drag and dropped it all so used Adobe digitial Edtions to add it , it still will not work. It's not a major problem because the Sony will read it but niggling. I will write to Waterstones to see what they say.

Probably. I have seen the same with an epub that crashed FBReader on my BeBook (running OpenInkpot) I 'converted' it from epub to epub with Calibre's ebook-convert, which complained about lots of stuff in the original not being valid XHTML.

The output epub worked fine afterwards,

calibre won't convert it without de-drming it and i can't do that
thanks anyway

Yes I've seen this with a faulty epub file. FBReader would display it (as would Calibre) but it always caused my Sony 505 to restart.

You might try re-downloading from waterstones if that is possible.

I had this on a WHSmith ADE/epub on BeBook I. I got lucky and got the page to turn while the file was loading and before the viewer crashed. Thereafter, I had no trouble reading the rest of the book. I've established that the problem was with the cover image, which was not a snap of the paper cover, but a standard image that Random House puts on ebooks.

If I try to load the cover of this file on BeBook I, it still crashes the viewer, so since the default page is no longer ever the cover, it can't be loaded and there is no danger of not being able to load the file. The BeBook people, "Endless Ideas", are looking at the file - it loads fine on the PC, and WHSmith say they can't reproduce the problem on their Sony readers.

Here is the reply from Waterstones :

-----------------------------
Please note: all eBooks sold on Waterstones.com are currently in the epub format, which is compatible with the Reader from Sony. Please be aware, however, that the epub format may not be compatible with the other readers available on the market.

I do apologise for any inconvenience caused as we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to offer your feedback as it is not our intention to inconvenience our customers and we always strive to offer a better level of service.

Kind regards,
--------------------

Which I find a little odd as they are now selling an Iriver reader and an Elonex reader, but I do not have the energy to aurgue with them.

What a reply ... as if there was ever intended to be a "Sony only" ePub version. Strip the DRM off that flawed file, run it through calibre and try it on your Cybook again.

See Adobe ADEPT DRM for EPUB circumvented.

What virus program are you running? It should not be blocking the scripts by default. It seems these days that a lot of the virus programs try to do too much and anticipate what's going on incorrectly.
